Context & issues

Three Bouygues Construction companies are taking part in this urban regeneration project, which the City of Canterbury is closely monitoring. Linkcity is Canterbury County Council’s development partner, Bouygues UK is carrying out the project and Uliving is managing the student accommodation. The project involves the creation of a pedestrian-friendly area, which will eventually accommodate 491 student rooms, 189 new homes and a range of activities, including shops, some of which are already located on the site.

The project uses MMC (modern methods of construction), in particular modular construction, to best manage the issues of standardisation, quality, cost, nuisance reduction and deadlines. Acting as independent certifier for a multi-party joint venture between Link City, Canterbury City Council and other partners, Artelia UK manages quality and compliance risks, actions and issues. The Group’s Moroccan subsidiary is also being mobilised to inspect the modular units manufactured for the project by Bouygues in Morocco.
